Cookie Policy
Notice on the use of cookies and other tracking technologies, pursuant to the Italian Data Protection Authority's Guidelines of 10 June 2021
Note for non-Italian readers. This is an English translation provided for your convenience. The cookie policy is drawn up in Italian as required by Italian and EU data-protection law (GDPR, Italian Privacy Code), and the Italian version is the legally authoritative text. For any clarification, please contact [email protected].
This Cookie Policy describes in detail the cookies and other technological identifiers used by the website www.paliodeiterzieri.it, operated by the Associazione Palio dei Terzieri di Città della Pieve, together with the purposes for which they are used and the ways in which users can manage their consent. This notice supplements the Privacy Policy and should be read in conjunction with it.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that the websites visited by a user send to their device (computer, tablet, smartphone), where they are stored and then transmitted back to those same websites on the next visit. They are used to carry out computer authentication, monitor sessions and store information about specific settings relating to the users who access the server.
In addition to cookies, there are other technological identifiers (web beacons, pixels, fingerprinting, etc.) that may serve similar purposes and which, for the purposes of this policy, are treated as cookies.
2. Categories of cookie
Cookies can be classified according to a number of criteria. The Guidelines of the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) of 10 June 2021 draw a particular distinction between technical cookies (necessary for the operation of the Site) and profiling cookies (used to attribute specific actions or recurring behavioural patterns to identified or identifiable individuals).
According to their duration, cookies may also be:
- Session cookies (deleted when the browser is closed)
- Persistent cookies (which remain stored until they expire or are manually deleted by the user)
According to who installs them, they may be:
- First-party (installed directly by the website being visited)
- Third-party (installed by third parties other than the operator of the website)
3. Cookies used by the Site
The Site uses a limited number of cookies and identifiers, mainly of a technical nature. A detailed list is set out below.
3.1 Technical cookies (always active)
Technical cookies, pursuant to Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code, do not require the prior consent of the data subject, as they are used for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary to provide an information-society service explicitly requested by the user.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
palio-cookie-consent |
paliodeiterzieri.it | Stores the user's cookie preferences and prevents the consent banner from being shown again | 12 months | Technical, persistent, first-party (localStorage) |
| Web server session identifier | paliodeiterzieri.it | Maintains the browsing session and ensures the technical functionality of the Site (e.g. submission of the contact form) | Session (deleted when the browser is closed) | Technical, session, first-party |
palio-admin-pw-{terziere} |
paliodeiterzieri.it | Stores the credential (in obfuscated form) of an administrator who has enabled the "Remember password for 5 days" option in the Site's restricted area. This concerns authorised administrators only and not ordinary visitors | 5 days | Technical, persistent, first-party (localStorage) |
palio-admin-email-{terziere} |
paliodeiterzieri.it | Stores the administrator's email address between sessions in the restricted area, so that it does not have to be re-entered at each login | 5 days | Technical, persistent, first-party (localStorage) |
| Restricted-area session cookie | paliodeiterzieri.it | Keeps the administrator authenticated during a working session in the Site's restricted area | Session (or 5 days if the "Remember password" option is enabled) | Technical, first-party, HttpOnly |
3.2 Analytics cookies (subject to consent)
The Site may make use of analytics cookies to collect aggregate statistical information about how the Site is used (number of visitors, pages viewed, time spent on the Site, country of origin). Such information is collected in aggregate and anonymised form.
In accordance with the Authority's Guidelines, third-party analytics cookies are treated as equivalent to technical cookies only if IP-anonymisation and other appropriate measures are in place, and only if the analytics provider does not cross-reference the data with other information in its possession. Where those conditions are not met, the user's explicit consent is required.
Current status: the Site does not currently use any third-party analytics services. Should any be implemented in the future, this policy will be updated and consent will be collected through the cookie banner.
3.3 Profiling and marketing cookies (subject to consent)
Profiling cookies are used to deliver advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the user while browsing the internet. They require the user's explicit and prior consent.
Current status: the Site does not use profiling or marketing cookies. We do not carry out user profiling, nor do we deliver targeted advertising.
3.4 Third-party technical cookies (CDN and fonts)
The Site uses certain third-party services to load typographic fonts and JavaScript libraries. These services may install technical cookies or record the user's IP address for security and operational purposes. In particular:
| Service | Provider | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Google Ireland Limited | Delivery of the typographic fonts used by the Site | policies.google.com |
| Cloudflare CDN | Cloudflare Inc. | Delivery of JavaScript libraries (AOS, GSAP) via cdnjs | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
These services are used for technical purposes (faster loading of resources) and do not involve any profiling. No data is shared with the providers beyond what is strictly necessary for the operation of the resources themselves.
3.5 Virtual assistant (AI chatbot)
The Site provides visitors with a conversational virtual assistant (chatbot) accessible via a dedicated chat icon. The assistant does not install cookies on the user's device and does not use any tracking technologies. The conversation history is held solely in the page's temporary memory and is lost when the browser window is closed.
The messages written by the user are sent, only for the duration of the request, to the Data Controller's infrastructure (Cloudflare) and from there transmitted to the artificial-intelligence model provider (Anthropic PBC, USA) to generate the reply. The visitor's IP address is used solely for the technical purpose of rate limiting, in order to protect the service against automated abuse. For further details on the data processing carried out by the virtual assistant, please refer to section 3.4 of the Privacy Policy.
4. How consent is given
On first access to the Site, a cookie banner is shown, compliant with the Authority's Guidelines of 10 June 2021, which allows the user to:
- Accept all cookies using the relevant button
- Reject all non-technical cookies using the "Reject all" button or by closing the banner without giving consent
- Customise their preferences by individually selecting the categories of cookies to accept
Refusing non-technical cookies in no way impairs the use of the Site.
5. Changing or withdrawing consent
Users may at any time change their cookie preferences or withdraw the consent they have given. To do so, simply:
- Click the "Manage cookies" button in the footer of every page of the Site
- Or use the button below:
5.1 Disabling cookies in your browser
Alternatively, users can disable or delete cookies that have already been installed directly from their browser. The procedures vary depending on the browser used; the links to the official instructions are set out below:
Disabling technical cookies may impair the correct functioning of some areas of the Site.
6. Duration of consent
The user's choice is stored for 12 months, as provided for by the Authority's Guidelines. Once that period has elapsed, the banner will be presented again. The banner will also be shown again in the event of:
- Significant changes to this Cookie Policy
- The introduction of new categories of cookie
- A change in the purposes of the processing or in the service providers
- Deletion of the consent cookie (e.g. manual deletion, change of device)
7. No "tracking wall"
The Site does not use any "tracking wall" or "cookie wall" mechanism: a user who refuses non-technical cookies can continue to browse and access all the content of the Site without any restriction, in full compliance with Recital 42 of the GDPR and with the Authority's Guidelines.
8. Re-presentation of the banner
Consistently with the requirements of the Guidelines, where a user refuses non-technical cookies, the banner will not be presented again for at least 6 months (except in the cases described in point 6). Users can always change their preferences using the "Manage cookies" button.
