Fourteen days of Renaissance re-enactment, from 10 to 23 August 2026. The Bossolo Ceremony — the drawing of the shooting order — took place on 23 May. The closing event is the Caccia del Toro on Sunday 23 August: at 5:00 PM the historical parade of more than eight hundred costumed performers leaves Piazza Plebiscito and escorts the archers to the Campo de li Giochi, where the traditional archery tournament takes place. Five events have paid entry:

• Wed 12 August — Night of the Barbacane: €3, sold only in via Vannucci on the evening of the event
• Sat 15 August — Challenge Throwing: grandstand €7, standing €4
• Sun 16 August — Feast in honour of Saint Roch: grandstand €12, standing €4
• Sat 22 August — Fluorescent flags at the Sports Field: single price €7
• Sun 23 August — Historical Procession and Caccia del Toro: yellow grandstand €10 (ages 4-12 €6), red and green grandstand €7 (ages 4-12 €4)

All other events — markets, fairs, taverns, performances in the streets of the town centre — are free of charge.

Advance sales are handled only by the Tourist Office – Info Point, Piazza G. Matteotti – La Rocca — 0578 298840: from 9 August, daily 10–13 and 16.30–18.30. On show nights tickets are also sold on site (15 August from 21.30 in Piazza Plebiscito, 22 August from 21.30 and 23 August from 16.00 at the Sports Field).

Entry is free for people with severe mobility disabilities — with a medical self-certification, together with one companion, in the dedicated area — and for children up to 3 years old held in a parent's arms.

By car: SS71 state road, or the A1 motorway, exit Chiusi-Chianciano Terme (about 20 km away). By train: Chiusi-Chianciano Terme station, then taxi or local bus. By plane: Perugia San Francesco airport (45 km), Florence Peretola or Rome Fiumicino about two hours away.

During the Palio days the old town is closed to traffic. Free car parks are available just outside the city walls, a few minutes' walk from the heart of the festival.

No. The three taverns — Castello, Casalino, Borgo Dentro — are walk-in, no booking required. You take a seat and order directly from the waiter at your table. Open every evening during the Palio from 7:30 PM until late. Renaissance-inspired cuisine, local wines, friendly prices. Every year the three terzieri welcome new performers. To take part, contact the Palio Secretary's Office: Nadia Manganello — +39 339 652 0500, or write to [email protected]. You will be assigned to the terziere matching your area of residence, where you can join rehearsals and receive your costume.

Città della Pieve is one of the finest art towns in Umbria. Don't miss: the frescoes by Perugino — including the Adoration of the Magi at the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi — the Cathedral of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, the sixteenth-century walls, the Torre del Pubblico and the red-brick alleys of the old town.
